A friend of mine once asked me what my purpose was. I had to think about that question for quite a while. At the time, I couldn’t give her an answer.
I didn’t know.
She went on to tell me that we all have a purpose, and that I needed to find mine. She gave me a key that had the word “purpose” engraved on it and told me to wear it around my neck until I discovered what my purpose was. This really resonated with me and for some time I had to explore the question, “What was I really put on this planet to do and for what reason?”
“I’ve come to believe that each of us has a personal calling that’s as unique as a fingerprint – and that the best way to succeed is to discover what you love and then find a way to offer it to others in the form of service, working hard, and also allowing the energy of the universe to lead you.” – Oprah Winfrey
Well, I finally found my purpose, and that is to try to help another human being that is suffering from alcohol or drug addiction. I am in recovery from alcohol and drug abuse and I have a passion now for helping others like myself; to show them there is another way to live, free from the bondage of drugs or alcohol. I believe now, that we all have a purpose in life–to help others to be more compassionate human beings, to love more, and to not be so quick to judge others.
We all have a story and we all want to be loved.
Every day, for years, I always felt this key around my neck. I touched it and it would remind me on a daily basis to seek out my purpose. It took me a while but I finally figured out what that was. She told me once I found my purpose that I should give this engraved key necklace to someone else that needed to find their “purpose”. I hope that it will help them find what they need, like it did for me.
What is your purpose?
My friend was right–we all have one, and I would like to know what yours is.
“If you have felt hopeless, hold on! Wonderful changes are going to happen in your life as you begin to live it on purpose.” – Rick Warren
